Pediatric Dentistry, also known as Children Dentistry is dedicated to the oral health of children from infancy through the teen years.
Here at Edgemont Dental, our dentists have the experience and qualifications to care for your child’s teeth, gums, and mouth throughout the various stages of childhood.
Without proper dental care, children face possible oral decay and disease that can cause a lifetime of pain and complications.
Sealants and Fluoride
The back teeth are particularly susceptible to decay. Dental sealants offer a way to protect these teeth and reduce the chance for cavity development. Our dentist will apply a durable resin material that covers the top and back of the teeth (areas with nooks and crevices that can be very hard for a toothbrush to reach). This “sealant” can ultimately provide years of enhanced protection against cavities for the back teeth and reduce the need for dental fillings later on. Dental sealants have proven very beneficial for many patients, especially children.
Fillings and Dental Cavities
One of the most common oral health problems is a dental cavity. Unfortunately, children’s teeth are especially susceptible to cavities due to their outer enamel being much thinner.
When a child’s cavity is small it can be treated with a dental filling. The affected region is removed and cleaned then filled to return it to proper form and function.
Once cavities have become larger more extensive treatments are required in order to save your child’s tooth. It is best to book regular examinations to catch problems when they are small and easily fixed. To schedule your child’s checkup and cleaning, contact our office today.
