Your Child's First Dental Visit
Following Canadian Dental Association guidance, a child's first visit should happen within six months of their first tooth coming in, or by their first birthday, whichever comes first. The first visit is short and calm. Your child can sit on your lap, look around, meet our team and sit in the chair at their own pace. We then do a gentle exam, count the teeth and do a cleaning that suits their age, and apply fluoride or sealants if appropriate. We also show kids and parents how to brush and floss.

Why Baby Teeth Matter
Baby teeth help children chew and speak, and they hold space for permanent teeth. Untreated decay in baby teeth can cause pain that affects eating and concentration at school, and it can affect the permanent teeth that follow. Looking after baby teeth sets your child up for healthier adult teeth.

Parents appreciate being able to book their kids and themselves under one roof. Family appointments can be booked together, and we offer evening appointments Monday to Thursday and Saturday appointments on alternating weeks. Dr. Nicole L'Heureux has a particular passion for young patients.

When should my child first see a dentist?

Many children visit about every six months. Children at higher risk of cavities may need visits every three to four months. Your dentist will recommend what is best for your child.
