Children’s Dentistry

Pediatric Dentistry, also known as Children Dentistry is dedicated to the oral health of children from infancy through the teen years.

Here at Edgemont Dental, our dentists have the experience and qualifications to care for your child’s teeth, gums, and mouth throughout the various stages of childhood.

Without proper dental care, children are exposed to potential gum decay and diseases that can cause lifelong pain and complications.

Sealants and Fluoride

The back teeth are particularly susceptible to decay. Dental sealants provide a way to protect these teeth and reduce the chances of tooth decay. Our dentist uses a thick resin material that coats the surface and back of the tooth (corners and crevices are potentially very difficult areas for a toothbrush). Ultimately, this “sealant” can restore years of maximum dental protection from cavities and reduce the need for dental fillings later on. Dental sealants have proven to be very beneficial for many patients, especially children.

Fillings and Dental Cavities

One of the most common oral health problems is a dental cavity. Unfortunately, children’s teeth are especially susceptible to cavities due to their outer enamel being much thinner.

When a child’s cavity is small it can be treated with a dental filling. The affected region is removed and cleaned then filled to return it to proper form and function.

Once the cavities are large, extensive treatment is necessary to protect your child’s teeth. It is best to write routine tests to catch problems when they are small and easy to fix. To schedule your child’s checkup and cleaning, contact our office today.

Space Maintainers

A space maintainer is custom-made by a dentist using acrylic or metal material. It can be removed or cemented into the child’s mouth. The purpose of this is to free up space for the permanent tooth to erupt and come into place.
