Dental Cleanings and Checkups

A regular dental cleaning and checkup is the simplest way to keep your smile healthy and to catch small problems before they become big ones. At Edgemont Dental in Southwest Edmonton, your visit is unhurried, thorough and focused on you. We clean, examine and explain, so you leave knowing exactly where your oral health stands.
What Is Included in a Checkup and Cleaning
A thorough dental exam
Your dentist checks your teeth for decay, looks at existing fillings and crowns, and examines your gums, bite and jaw. An oral cancer screening is included at no extra charge.
Digital x-rays when needed
Digital x-rays let us see between teeth and below the gumline, where problems often start unseen. They are used when they are clinically helpful, and we explain what they show.
Professional teeth cleaning
Our hygienists remove plaque and hardened tartar that brushing and flossing cannot reach. Cleaning helps protect against cavities and gum disease and leaves your teeth feeling smooth and fresh.
Gum health assessment
We check the health of your gums so that early signs of inflammation are caught and treated promptly. If more care is needed, we will explain your options clearly.
Current Offer for Adult Patients
An offer of complimentary teeth whitening or an electric toothbrush is currently available with adult check-ups and cleanings for eligible patients. Ask our front desk whether you qualify when you book.
Why Regular Cleanings and Checkups Matter
Prevent cavities: Removing plaque and finding early decay means simpler, smaller treatment.
Protect your gums: Regular cleaning is a first line of defence against gum disease.
Catch problems early: Many conditions cause no pain until they are advanced.
Save time and money: Treating small issues early usually means fewer and shorter visits later.
Keep your breath fresh: Removing buildup helps with persistent bad breath.
Before Your Visit
- Brush and floss as usual before you come in.
- Bring a valid photo ID, your insurance card, a list of your current medications and any recent x-rays from your previous dentist.
- New patients: arrive about 10 minutes early to complete forms, or ask us to email them so you can fill them in at home.
- Tell us about any sensitivity, anxiety or health changes when you book so we can plan your visit around them.
After Your Cleaning
- Teeth and gums can feel a little tender or sensitive for a day or so. This usually settles on its own.
- Continue brushing twice a day and flossing daily. Your hygienist will share tips suited to your mouth.
- Follow the recall schedule your dentist recommends, and call us if you notice bleeding, swelling or lasting discomfort.
Your First Visit With Us
If you are a new patient, your first appointment is a comprehensive exam that takes about 60 to 90 minutes. It includes digital x-rays, a gum health assessment, an oral cancer screening and an intraoral camera review. You will meet your dentist and hygienist, and we will walk you through the findings and build a care plan together.
