No Silver,
No Compromise
Tooth-coloured composite fillings are the modern alternative to amalgam (silver) fillings. Made from a blend of resin and glass particles, they bond directly to your tooth — requiring less removal of healthy tooth structure and providing a natural-looking result that blends seamlessly with your smile.
At Edgemont Dental, composite is our standard for all new fillings. We believe restorative dentistry should leave no trace — functional, durable, and completely invisible.

The Composite
Advantage
Invisible Results
Shade-matched to your exact tooth colour — no one will know you have a filling. Composite blends seamlessly with surrounding enamel for a completely natural appearance.
Conservative Preparation
Composite bonds chemically to tooth structure, so we remove less healthy enamel than silver fillings required. More of your natural tooth is preserved.
Mercury-Free
Unlike amalgam, composite contains no mercury — a peace-of-mind choice for patients who prefer metal-free dentistry without compromise on strength or longevity.
Durable & Repairable
Modern composites are highly wear-resistant. If chipped, they can be repaired without replacing the entire filling — saving time and cost.
What to Expect
at Your Appointment
01
Numbing
Local anaesthetic is applied to ensure you feel nothing during the procedure. We take our time to ensure you are completely comfortable before we begin.
02
Decay Removal
Only the decayed or damaged tooth structure is removed — no more than necessary. Our conservative approach preserves as much healthy enamel as possible.
03
Shade Matching
We select the composite shade that most closely matches your natural tooth before placement, ensuring the finished result is completely imperceptible.
04
Bonding & Sculpting
The resin is applied in layers, precisely shaped to mirror your tooth's natural anatomy, and cured with a high-intensity light to achieve maximum strength.
05
Polish & Check
A final polish brings out the natural sheen of the composite, and a bite check ensures a perfect, comfortable occlusion — you leave with a result that's both beautiful and functional.
Common Questions
How long do composite fillings last?
7–15 years on average with proper care. Larger fillings or those in high-pressure areas (back molars) may need replacement sooner, as they experience greater chewing forces. Regular check-ups let us monitor them and catch any wear before it becomes a problem.
Can I replace my old silver fillings?
Yes. Many patients choose to replace amalgam fillings with composite for aesthetic or peace-of-mind reasons. We assess each filling individually — replacing them when they show signs of wear, cracking, or leakage ensures the best outcome and avoids unnecessary removal of healthy tooth structure.
Does getting a filling hurt?
The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic — you shouldn't feel discomfort during treatment. Some sensitivity to cold for a few days afterward is normal and resolves on its own as the tooth settles. If sensitivity persists beyond a week, we encourage you to call us.
