Dental Crowns &
Tooth Restoration

Custom-crafted crowns that restore strength, shape, and appearance to damaged teeth — built to last and matched to look completely natural.

What We Offer

Restore Your Tooth,
Naturally.

A dental crown is a custom-made cap that fits over a damaged, decayed, or weakened tooth — restoring its full shape, strength, and function. Modern crowns are virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth and are designed to last for decades.

At Edgemont Dental, we offer same-day CEREC crowns as well as traditional lab-crafted restorations, giving you flexibility in timeline and material.

You may need a crown if you have:

  • Large cavity too big for a filling
  • Cracked or fractured tooth
  • Tooth following root canal therapy
  • Severely worn or broken tooth
  • To anchor a dental bridge
  • Cosmetic reshaping of a misshapen tooth

PFM Crowns

Porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns offer strength with a natural appearance. A reliable, time-tested option suitable for both front and back teeth.

Your Visit

What to Expect

01

Exam & Imaging

Digital X-rays and a clinical examination to assess the tooth structure and plan the ideal crown. We review all options with you before any treatment begins.

02

Tooth Preparation

The tooth is gently shaped to make room for the crown. Local anaesthetic keeps you comfortable throughout. Digital or traditional impressions are taken.

03

Temporary Crown

A temporary crown protects the prepared tooth while your permanent restoration is crafted — typically ready within 1–2 weeks. (CEREC crowns skip this step.)

04

Final Placement

Your permanent crown is tried in, adjusted for fit and bite, then bonded securely. You leave with a fully restored, natural-looking tooth.

FAQ

Common Questions

How long do dental crowns last?

With proper care, dental crowns typically last 15–25 years. Avoid chewing ice or very hard foods, wear a night guard if you grind your teeth, and keep up with regular hygiene appointments to maximise the life of your crown.

Is getting a crown painful?

The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic so you won't feel the preparation. Some sensitivity is normal for a few days after and resolves on its own. Over-the-counter pain relief is usually sufficient.

What is a CEREC same-day crown?

CEREC uses chairside CAD/CAM technology to design and mill a permanent ceramic crown in under an hour — all in one appointment. No temporary crown, no second visit. Not every tooth or situation is suitable for CEREC; we'll advise whether it's the right option for you.

Does a crowned tooth still need care?

Yes. The crown itself can't decay, but the tooth root and margins can. Brush, floss, and attend regular check-ups as normal. Flossing around the crown margins is especially important.
